Using a weightlifting belt can add some serious weight to your 1RM, but using a belt every time you lift can be detrimental to your strength. Let us break down when and why you should use one.
To make this really simple i'm going to you an executive summary in one sentence. Only use a weightlifting belt if you are lifting above 80% of your 1RM.
Here's why: over using a weight belt can be detrimental to your strength training and will effect the development of the transverse abdominals and other core muscles. While using a belt when you reach around the 80% of 1RM will provide your core and lower back more support which will allow your body to lift more weight and stop your spine from snapping like a twig!
Remember, you can't fake strong! ;)
